This commissioned paper has three aims. Firstly, the paper reviews research on ageing in New Zealand, with a primary emphasis on the last ten years (1996-2005). Secondly, the paper identifies gaps in research on ageing in New Zealand; and, thirdly, the paper explores how research proposed under the Enhancing Wellbeing in an Ageing Society project could help to fill the identified gaps. The review paper includes research in the social sciences, including economics, and health services research. June 2006.
