This is a summary of the Interim Report prepared by the 1997 Periodic Report Group. It is the result of the first review of the retirement income framework that is required under the terms of the Retirement Income Act 1993. The Group’s statutory reporting date is 31 December 1997. However, the Government asked us to publish an Interim Report by 31 July 1997 to provide information relevant to the September 1997 referendum on the Coalition Government’s proposed Retirement Savings Scheme.
